THE INTERIOR CASTLE
You'll find beautiful adventurous chamber music on these 2 CDs by Musica Aperta for the original theatre piece "The Interior Castle".
Led by cellist Ignacio Alcover, Musica Aperta has pushed the boundaries of theatre and classical music since 2002.
For this performance, a quintet of 2 violins, 2 celli, and wind controller clarinet and bass clarinet is employed.
The complete production with 2 actors, 5 musicians, lighting sound and projections had a 10 performance run in summer of 2015.
The piece was commissioned by the Carmelite Monastery of Boston to mark the fifth anniversary of Santa Teresa of Avila, and portrays her life through dialogue and acting, music and lights.
The first CD "The Interior Castle" contains all the music from the performance in sequence. This includes music commissioned for the piece by composers Haskell Small, Patrick Defossez and Fred Karns, along with music director Ignacio Alcover's arrangements of music by Diego Ortiz, Federico Mompou, Tomas Luis de Victoria, Brahms and Messiaen.
The second CD "The Interior Castle Original Music" contains all the original music from CD1, plus other sections of Defossez's "Les Sept Vitraux Du Chateau Interieur" not included in the performance. This is all of the commissioned music for The Interior Castle, and a world premiere of the DeFossez piece..
